Introduction to DBMS

DBMS stands for Database Management Systems.

It is basically a system for managing data.

It can contain a collection of interrelated data and must be both convenient and efficient to use.

DBMS are used in almost every industry. Some examples include banking, universities, online retailers, airlines etc.

For example, a university database would be used to:

  • add students, faculty and courses

  • allow students to register for courses

  • generate class rosters

  • compute GPAs and assign grades etc.
